Required materials:

  • An idol of Lord Ganesha
  • A plantain leaf (or a plate)
  • Rice
  • A bell
  • Two coconuts or bananas
  • Betel leaves
  • Betel nuts
  • Kumkum
  • Haldi
  • Akshata (rice mixed with turmeric)
  • Flowers
  • Incense sticks

Procedure:

  1. Clean and bathe the idol of Lord Ganesha.
  2. Place the plantain leaf or plate on a clean surface.
  3. Place the idol of Lord Ganesha on the plantain leaf or plate.
  4. Sprinkle rice around the idol.
  5. Light the incense sticks and place them in front of the idol.
  6. Ring the bell three times.
  7. Apply kumkum and haldi to the forehead of the idol.
  8. Offer flowers and akshata to the idol.
  9. Offer coconuts or bananas to the idol.
  10. Chant the following mantra:

"Om Gam Ganapataye Namaha"

  1. Perform aarti.
  2. Distribute the prasadam to the family members and friends.
