Earthquake Hits Morocco, 296 Dead, 135 Injured

 A powerful earthquake struck Morocco on Saturday, killing at least 296 people and injuring 135 more. The quake, which had a magnitude of 6.9, struck at around 3:45 a.m. local time in the Chefchaouen region, near the border with Algeria.

The earthquake caused widespread damage in the region, destroying homes, businesses, and infrastructure. Many people were trapped under rubble, and rescue crews are working to free them.

The Moroccan government has declared a state of emergency in the affected areas. Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch has visited the region and pledged to provide assistance to those affected.
