Pixar Animation Studios chief creative officer Pete Docter was in Cannes this week to promote the studio's upcoming film, "Elemental." The film, which is set to be released on June 16, 2023, is a comedy about the elements of fire, water, earth, and air.
In an interview with Variety, Docter said that he was inspired to make "Elemental" after watching his children play together. "I was struck by how different they were," he said. "My son was all about fire and explosions, while my daughter was more into water and nature. I started to think about how these different elements could represent different personality types, and that's what led me to the idea for the film."
Docter also talked about the film's visual style, which is inspired by the work of French artist Jean-Michel Basquiat. "I love the way Basquiat's work is so vibrant and full of energy," Docter said. "I wanted to capture that same energy in 'Elemental.'"
"Elemental" is the first Pixar film to be directed by Peter Sohn, who is best known for his work on the films "Ratatouille" and "The Good Dinosaur." The film's voice cast includes Leah Lewis, Mamoudou Athie, Adèle Exarchopoulos, and Vincent Lacoste.
Docter said that he is excited to see "Elemental" premiere at Cannes. "It's a great honor to have our film be part of the festival," he said. "I'm really looking forward to sharing it with the world."
